    Rolenn Manufacturing (RMI) was established in 1963.  At that time Rolenn's only product was the EP200 transfer molding press. The press was developed to use thermosetting encapsulation materials on small electronic devices.  The press design was modified and improved several times in the early years of its evolution.  The original idea of the Rolenn Press was to produce an economical small transfer molding system that would use inexpensive and easy to produce molds.  The press was first thought of as a prototyping machine able to get a product developed quickly and inexpensively.  The Rolenn Press turned out to be so reliable that on many occasions the prototyped device went directly into production, using the same equipment but with a multi cavity mold.  Many of the original presses, some as old as 35 years are still in use.  The press soon gained acceptance in the electronic industry and today is used for a number of thermosetting applications both for encapsulated and non-encapsulated parts, the only restriction being the size of the part or device.

    In the early 1980's the Rolenn EP200 Press started to gain acceptance in the medical industry for molding silicon rubber parts.  The Rolenn Press is capable of processing most grades of silicon rubber, including liquid.  Again, the size of the part is the only limitation.  Today the medical industry is the largest user of the Rolenn EP200 Press.

    The EP200 and hand book molds are an ideal combination for production molding of smaller components used in the medical and electronics industries, laboratory or product development and prototype molding.  (The EP200 and hand book molds economically and efficiently encapsulate single and dual-in-line devices, reed switches, resistors, coils, capacitors, transformers, diodes and other types of insert molding.)  The EP 200 transfer mold press is used in laboratories and manufacturing facilities world-wide.  Rolenn Manufacturing has over thirty years of experience servicing customers throughout the world.

Bullet    The EP 200 is designed and engineered to produce a versatile range of molded products with thermoset molding compounds such as Diall, Epoxy and medical grade silicone rubbers.  Regular transfer molding grades of material may also be used by increasing the gate and runner sizes.  Encapsulation grade materials are noted for their ability to be molded at low pressure and are therefore most ideal.

  3. Bullet    The EP 200 takes advantage of Rolenn's unique bottom transfer system which has many advantages.  Since the transfer ram does not normally disengage from the bottom pot platen, wear is greatly reduced and a closer clearance can be maintained.  This minimizes material flashing between ram and pot.  The transfer ram is also maintained at a uniform molding temperature.  Molding with powder or pre-forms can be accomplished with this bottom transfer system.  A manual "TRANSFER DELAY" system allows for material pre-heating in pot if required.

  1. Bullet    Transfer molding presses' ruggedly constructed base and over-arm assembly of malleable cast iron will withstand forces in excess of the rated capacity.  Castings are precision machined and finished for durability and appearance.

  2. Bullet    Top and bottom cylinders are constructed with heavy wall seamless steel tubing.  Each cylinder is honed and polished.   Heat resistant silicone and viton "O" rings are used for static and moveable seals.

  3. Bullet    The EP 200's have been designed and engineered for low maintenance and economical operation, utilizing hand molds and smaller press mounted molds.  All mechanical and electrical components are conveniently located for servicing and maintenance.

  4. Bullet    Operating power is derived from compressed air.  A unique toggle assist mold clamping system provides clamping forces in excess of 8,000 lbs.

  5. Bullet    Independent proportional temperature controllers are incorporated for top and bottom platen heats.

  6. Bullet    The semi-automatic controls on the EP 200 are simple to operate.  An electrical interlock requires two-hand operation of the "CLAMP" function (dual safety cycle start).
